Sénergues

The community Sénergues with 459 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) is located in the French region of Midi -Pyrenees in the department of Aveyron. The town lies on the GR 65, which is largely the historical course of the French pilgrimage route " Via Podiensis " follows.

Geography and transport

Sénergues is located in the Massif Central south over the Lot Valley in the section Entraygues -sur -Truyère - Vieillevie. The next major French cities are Lyon ( 225 km) to the northeast, Toulouse ( 139 km) in the south-west, Bordeaux (244 km ) to the west and Montpellier ( 157 km) to the southeast.

The nearest airport is Rodez - Marcillac, which is served, including the Air France and Ryanair. About the D904 or D901 it is about 45 road miles away. The next stations are Gare de Rodez and Gare SNCF Viviez / Decazeville with daily connections to Paris and Toulouse.

In Sénergues there is only very limited accommodation options. There is a pilgrim hostels (French: Gîte d' étape ). The nearest major town on the Camino de Santiago is Conques. Thither leads the way in wavy relief on field paths and small roads through mixed forests and meadows. As a road link there leads the D42

Attractions

  • The Church of St. Martin 's Church belonged to a monastery, the 819 first recorded.
  • The castle, built in the late fourteenth century. 1580 Abraham Guirard tried Lord of Sénergues to convert his subjects to Protestantism. This aroused the displeasure of the near- Conques Abbey, was dependent on the Sénergues to a great extent.
  • Tour de Montarnal. The ruins of the tower from the 13th century dominates the old houses of the village.
