Severstal Cherepovets (Russian Северсталь Череповец ) is established in 1956 under the name Stroitel Cherepovets Hockey Club of the city of Cherepovets. He plays in the Kontinental Hockey League. The club colors are black, yellow and blue.

History

The club was founded in 1956 as Stroitel Cherepovets. As early as 1969 the name was in Metallurg Cherepovets and last amended in 1994 in Severstal Cherepovets, after the main sponsor of the steel company Severstal.

The only success in the club's history was winning the championship of the Perwaja League in 1981, succeeded before the beginning of the 1990s, the promotion to the top Russian league. There, the team established over the years in the Super League and reached, after a third place in the 2000/ 01 season, at the end of the season 2002 /03 the runner-up title.

For the 2008/09 season Severstal was inducted into the newly formed Continental Hockey League and missed the first two seasons, respectively the play-offs. In the following three years playing the club reached the play-offs in each case, but already retired from the eighth or quarter finals.
