History

The St. John's Fog Devils were founded in 2005 as a franchise of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. They filled the void left by the relocation of the St. John 's Maple Leafs of the American Hockey League to Toronto left in 2005. In the three seasons of existence, they each reached in the lower half of their division just the playoffs for the Coupe du Président, the champion of the QMJHL, but left each in the first round. One after another failed the Fog Devils in the best- of-seven series at the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles (1:4 and 0:4 ) and Acadie - Bathurst Titan ( 2:4 ). In addition to the regular sporting success that franchise drove heavy financial losses a (alone in the season 2006/ 07 a total of $ 750,000 ), so that the management decided after the 2007/ 08 season to the franchise to Montreal, Quebec to resettle, where it ever since under the name Club de hockey junior de Montréal takes part in the match operation of the QMJHL. Thus Newfoundland is the only province in Canada without their own CHL franchise.
