Stoffel Vandoorne

Stoffel Vandoorne (* March 26, 1992 in Kortrijk ) is a Belgian racing driver. He won the 2012 Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup. 2013 he raced in the Formula Renault 3.5 and was second overall. In 2014 he appears in the GP2 series.

Career

Vandoorne began his motorsport career in 1998 in karting, where he was active until 2009. Among other things, he was in 2008 Belgian KF2 champion and 2009 runner-up in the KF2 CIK -FIA Karting World Championship. 2010 moved Vandoorne into formula racing and won with six wins the F4 Eurocup 1.6 with 159 to 123 points, ahead of Norman Nato.

2011 Vandoorne approached for KTR in Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup. With a third place as best result he finished fifth in the drivers' championship and was the best-placed driver without a win. In addition Vandoorne drove for KRT in the North European Formula Renault. Also there Vandoorne was the best rider to win a race. With four second-place finishes for the best results he finished the season on top of the third in the drivers' standings. 2012 moved to Vandoorne Josef Kaufmann Racing. At the Nürburgring he succeeded almost a perfect weekend. He scored both pole positions, won both races and even set the fastest race lap. It was his first two victories in the Eurocup. Overall Vandoorne decided four races for themselves and only finished the last race in which he had to retire, not among the top four drivers. With 244 to 234 points he won against Daniil Kwjat. They had scored more than twice as many points each, like all other opponents. In addition Vandoorne completed three events of the North European Formula Renault. He won five of seven races. In the overall standings, he was ninth.

2013 moved to Vandoorne Fortec Motorsport in the Formula Renault 3.5. He followed the same route as last year's champion Robin Frijns, who had moved to 2.0 Eurocup Fortec Motorsport in the Formula Renault 3.5 also after his title win in Formula Renault.
