Alexander Rossi (racing driver)

Alexander Rossi ( born September 25, 1991 Auburn ) is an American race car driver. He joined in 2011 and 2012 in the Formula Renault 3.5. Since 2013 he start in the GP2 series.

Career

Once Rossi had started his career in karting, in 2005 he moved to Formula racing in the Skip Barber Western Regional Series, which he won a year later with eight victories in twelve races. He also finished third in the National Skip Barber Championship and seventh in the Formula TR Pro Series FR 1600. 2007 he moved to the Formula BMW USA. After he was third in his debut season, a year later won the championship. He won ten of 15 races. With his championship title, he qualified for the World Final of the Formula BMW that he won against Michael Christensen and Esteban Gutierrez.

2009 saw Rossi to Europe in the International Formula Master. With three wins, he finished at the end of season fourth overall. In December Rossi graduated as a reward for his victory in the Formula BMW World Final, a Formula 1 test day in the BMW Sauber. In the season 2009/2010 GP2 Asia Series Rossi initially received a cockpit at Ocean Racing Technology. After just one race weekend, he joined the Malaysian Meritus team. In the overall standings, he eventually finished ninth overall.

Following his involvement in the GP2 Asia Series 2010 Rossi went for ART Grand Prix at the GP3 Series at the start. With two wins, he finished fourth overall. He also competed in the Formula Renault 3.5 at the prestigious race in Monte Carlo.

2011 Rossi went for Fortec Motorsport in the Formula Renault 3.5 at the start. With a win at the season opener in Alcaniz Rossi started the season. At Silverstone, Rossi came first in both races in second place finish, but was subsequently disqualified for the second race because his team had used irregular wheel nuts. With a total of two wins and six podium finishes he finished the season in third place in the drivers' standings. Team Intern, he sat down with 156 by 47 points against Cesar Ramos. At the end of the year, Rossi took part for the Caterham Team AirAsia GP2 Final at 2011 and was tenth. He then completed for Lotus, the Formula 1 team Caterham, a Formula 1 test. 2012 Rossi played for Arden Caterham Motorsport his second season in Formula Renault 3.5. While he made his first team mate Lewis Williamson to the touch, he lost his successor António Félix da Costa with 63 to 166 points clear. With a third place as the best placement was Rossi eleventh in the drivers' standings. In addition, he was a test driver in Formula 1 team Caterham and took in this function also in free practice sessions of Formula 1 part.

2013 Rossi rose for the second race weekend of the GP2 series in the ongoing championship with a Caterham. Already in his first race in as- Sachir he stood on the podium in third. He repeated this result in the feature race at Spa- Francorchamps. In the sprint race at Monza he finished second. At the last event of the season at the Yas Marina Circuit Rossi scored his first GP2 victory in the feature race. He finished the season starting in ninth place overall. With 92 to 3 points he sat down significantly against by his teammates Sergio Canamasas. In addition, Rossi remained Formula 1 test driver of the racing team. In this capacity he participated in the free practice of the Grand Prix of Canada and the United States participate. He also made his debut in 2013 in the FIA World Endurance Championship ( WEC) and entered for Greaves Motorsport at the 24 - hour race at Le Mans 2013. 2014 Rossi denies his second GP2 season for Caterham. He also remained Caterham Formula 1 test driver.
