Sušac

Susac [ su ː ʃats ] ( in ancient Choasa ) is a small Croatian island in Dalmatia in Dubrovnik-Neretva county. It is located 23 nautical miles south of the fourth largest Croatian island of Hvar and 13 NM west of Lastovo. The island of Susac heard since 2006 on the protection area of the Nature Park Lastovo.

The highest point of the island is Veli Gark. It is 243 meters high. While the northwestern beaches are steep, the south-easterly flat with a few sandy coves. Most of the beaches on the island are sandy and suitable for swimming.

On the south-eastern Cape Kanula is a lighthouse. The Lighthouse Susac was built in 1878 on the 100 meter high, steep southern side of the island. The lighthouse keepers are the only inhabitants of this island. Only sometimes fishermen, beekeepers, shepherds with their flocks and tourists come in summer.

Ruins of Roman buildings and the church of St. Vlach from the 15th century testify to the former settlement.

Susac also has a rich endemic flora, including the Kohlart Brassica cazzae.
