Suzuki Hayabusa

The Suzuki Hayabusa 1300 ( as Suzuki GSX 1300 R is known ) is a motorcycle model categories of sports tourers and super athlete. " Hayabusa " is the Japanese term for the Peregrine Falcon, one of the fastest birds of prey. She was the first over 300 km / h fast production motorcycle. The aerodynamics have been optimized in the wind tunnel designed for speed, so stirred the unusual appearance.

The Hayabusa has a then newly -designed, liquid-cooled four-cylinder inline engine with Ram Air, fuel injection and double overhead camshaft (DOHC ) that actuate four valves per cylinder. Similarly, a lambda probe and a catalyst for exhaust gas treatment are available. The rear wheel is driven by a six-speed gearbox and an O -ring chain.

A resulting in the public discussion about dangers of no longer dominant performances and speeds for motorcycles led Suzuki, as well as all other importers and manufacturers in Europe, a voluntary self-restraint; an electronic control system prevents from 2001 exceeding speed of 298 km / h

With the exception of the speed limit and the small changes Hayabusa was built from 1999 to 2007 unchanged.

At a presentation in early July 2007 Suzuki announced that from 2008, the successor to the Hayabusa is built. Among other things, the engine capacity was increased by 3.1% to 1340 cc, the output increased to 145 kW ( 197 hp). In addition to a redesign of the engine and the fairing and the tank have been extensively reworked to good wind protection to offer the driver even at high speeds. The electronics received, just like last year in the GSX- R 1000, switching power curves and a gear indicator.

Development

The Hayabusa has been completely developed by the end of the pilot run stage in Germany for mass production. In addition to the race track testing took place on the A81 near Heilbronn extensive tests instead. These tests were always carried out on public roads near the A81 for other models under the leadership of Suzuki Europe. Above all, choosing the right tires led next to the chassis design and engine tuning to a very high testing effort. A total of eight weeks, the A performed 81 high-speed tests in which more than 120 sets of tires were worn out. In addition to the test drivers Jean -Claude Richet and Roger Simmons especially the driving style of test coordinator Jürgen Zürn repeatedly led to delamination of the tread. Only the built- in serial Bridgestone tires could then minimize the adverse impact of over 300 km / h on a longer distance.

Records

Hayabusas hold numerous full-speed or acceleration records, including the FIM world record ( class up to 1350 cc, turbocharged ) with a top speed of 406.894 km / h

The turbocharged Hayabusa the German company MAB is one of the fastest accelerating land vehicles street legal. It has, according to test an output of 294 kW (400 hp). The acceleration from a standstill to 300 km / h in 13.1 seconds the machine.
