Swimming at the 2012 Summer Olympics – Women's 100 metre backstroke

The contest the 100m backstroke women at the 2012 Olympic Games in London was held on 29 and 30 July 2012 at the London Aquatics Centre. 45 athletes took part.

There were six heats. The 16 fastest swimmers of all heats qualified for the two semi-finals, which were held on the same day. For the finals the next day here qualified the fastest eight starters on both runs.

Emily Seebohm who had improved the Olympic record in their lead, remained in their semi-final under the old record.

Final

Champion Franklin ( USA) and the runner-up Seebohm both remained under the old Olympic record in Beijing. Seebohm was faster than the old record in all three races. Franklin swam the final 12 minutes after their semi-final over 200 meters freestyle, in which they reached the final. Your time is the fourth fastest over this distance. First came seven out of eight finalists in under a minute into the goal. Franklin's victory was the third U.S. victory in a row in this discipline.
