Tamnič

Tamnič (Cyrillic Тамнич ) is a village in the Opština Negotin, in the district of Bor in eastern Serbia.

History and name

It is not known exactly when it was the first settlements in the village. The first written records refer to the 1530. At that time the village belonged with 50 houses one of the largest villages in the region.

The name is derived from the word Tamnič Tamni ( German dark). This is because that the village is surrounded by forests.

Population

The 2002 census (self- nomination) showed that 349 people live in the village, of which 348 identified themselves as Serbs, and a person as a Bulgarian.
