TeliaSonera AB is the leading telecommunications company and mobile network operators in Finland and Sweden. The company is also active in other northern and eastern European markets, some with subsidiaries such as Azercell, Kcell, Moldcell and Omnitel.

Headquarters and operations

TeliaSonera, headquartered in Stockholm in Eurasia has 189 million customers and employs approximately 26,000 employees. Revenue in 2013, an estimated 101.7 billion Swedish crowns ( that's about 11.5 billion EUR ).

The mobile communications business in Scandinavia and the Baltic States in 2013 was 37.5 % of revenue, about 16.7 % was accounted for by the broadband division. In addition Teliasonera operates the business Eurasia, mobile operations in Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan ( Azercell about ), Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Georgia and Moldova ( about Moldcell ). Stakes in mobile operators in Russia, Turkey and Afghanistan are just as much business. The Eurasia division contributed in 2013 more than 50% of total sales of Teliasonera Group.

The Company's shares are traded on the Nordic Exchange OMX. 37.3 % of the shares of TeliaSonera are the Swedish, 11.7% of the Finnish state.

TeliaSonera took over in late 2009 Eesti Telekom AS.

History

The company was established in 2003 by the merger of the Swedish company Telia and the Finnish company Sonera.

Telia was established in 1853 as Kungl. Telegrafverket founded, since 1953 was the name Televerket, since 1993 Telia AB.

In early June, 2008, France Telecom received an offer for the acquisition of TeliaSonera, which valued the company at 27 billion euros. When management of TeliaSonera as well as the governments of the co-owners Sweden and Finland einstuften the offer as too low, the French gave up an increase in the range and this attracted even all the way back in June 2008.

As the world's first mobile operator TeliaSonera has taken in 2009 its commercial 4G network on LTE base in Sweden and Norway in operation. 2010 was followed by Finland, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
