Tex Schramm

Texas Earnest Schramm, Jr ( born June 2, 1920 in San Gabriel, California, † 15 July 2003 in Dallas, Texas ) was an American sports journalist, sports official and general manager of the Dallas Cowboys.

Career

Against the Dallas Cowboys

Schramm studied journalism at the University of Texas. From 1947 to 1956 he was employed by the management of the Los Angeles Rams and was responsible for public relations. In 1957 he worked for the U.S. television network CBS. At the suggestion of Schramm CBS expanded the coverage of the Winter Olympics 1960 in Squaw Valley from much.

Dallas Cowboys

1960 expanded the National Football League. For $ 600,000 a franchise was awarded to two businessmen from Texas, for the NFL in Dallas - settled - the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys had competition in their own city. By 1963, played the Dallas Texans, a team of AFL was founded in 1960, moved into close proximity to this team to Kansas City. Tex Schramm was employed as general manager of the Cowboys, Tom Landry was coach. The first game of the year Cowboys went disastrously, no match could be won. During the era of Tex Schramm, the Cowboys moved five times in the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl VI and Super Bowl XII could be obtained in each case. After Jerry Jones bought the Cowboys in 1989, it dismissed the longtime coach of the team, Tom Landry. Schramm stepped out of anger at this decision from his office.

1990 Schramm became the first president of the World League of American Football. Schramm was married and had three daughters. He is buried in Restland Memorial Park in Dallas.

Honors

Schramm is since 2003 a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, located in the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. He is honored on the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor. He was inducted posthumously in 2003.
