It has also been replaced on the U.S. album Mona ( I Need You Baby ) by the Single Not Fade Away.

The first album the Rolling Stones was recorded in January and February 1964 with a two-track tape recorder in the Regent Sound Studios in London. The producer of the album, Andrew Loog Oldham, was as young and inexperienced as the members of the group. Therefore, he left the band in the studio act relatively freely. The result was a rough and unsophisticated acting live in - studio sound of the shots. The unmistakable band noise does not reduce the dynamics of the recordings. For the recording technology of the Decca recording engineer Bill Farley was responsible.

On the British original edition from April 1964 only, the band members are pictured on the front of the album cover - the front shows neither the band name nor the album title - one at the time, new and unusual idea of Andrew Loog Oldham band manager. On the back is black and white portrait photos are the band members from the British photographer David Bailey, a short article about the Rolling Stones Andrew Loog Oldham and from the track list. On the album cover of a future issue two small, diagonally staggered photos of the band are shown, once shot from the front and from the back side. The band's name, the album title and is top right, bottom left, the track list.

The song material consists of nine cover versions from the genre rhythm and blues and three original compositions. Only the piece of Tell Me is given as an author team Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, the other two original compositions Phelge the pseudonym will be used. The authors' names used on some early records Nanker / Phelge was a pseudonym for Jagger / Richards or for the entire band. With Uncle Phil and Uncle Gene as an additive in Now I've Got a Witness are meant Phil Spector and Gene Pitney. Also in the song Little by Little Phil Spector is given as co-author in addition Phelge.

In the UK, the album was in the charts # 1, stayed there for 11 weeks and held a total of 51 weeks in the charts. In Germany, the LP came up at No. 2 for a total of 40 weeks of stay in the charts. In the U.S., England 's Newest Hit Makers reached number 11 on the charts.
