Thomas Fanara

Thomas Fanara ( born April 24, 1981 in Annecy ) is a French alpine skier. His specialist discipline is the giant slalom.

Biography

Fanara went in December 1998 for the first time in FIS races at the start, race in the European Cup was followed from January 2001., Where it took until he could but at the top for several years. In the season 2005/ 06 he first reach the podium and he finished seventh in the giant slalom standings.

After several victories in FIS races Fanara was in January 2005, his debut in the World Cup Skiing. Already in his second race, the giant slalom in Kranjska Gora on 26 February 2005, he scored his first World Cup as 23 points. The preliminary best result of his career he reached in Adelboden, where he surprisingly went in Riesenslom fifth place on 7 January 2006. With this performance, he qualified for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. Once there, he departed, however, from the first pass. In the season 2006/07 Fanara could place several times in the top fifteen and went for the first time in the World Cup slalom race in one at the start, but so far won no World Cup points in this discipline. At the 2007 World Championships in Åre, Sweden, he was the best French 16th in the giant slalom.

The 2007/08 season began Fanara with two top 10 places in the Giant Slalom. In Bad Kleinkirchheim on December 8, 2007, he led after the first round before he case of a crash in the second race tore the cruciate ligament and thus turned out for the rest of the season. In the first race of the Alpine Ski World Cup 2008/ 09 Fanara reached in the giant slalom in Soelden again a fifth. In total, he drove this winter four times into the top ten.

On December 6, 2009 Fanara suffered in the giant slalom in Beaver Creek again a torn ACL. Again he fell out for the rest of the winter. After his recent injury, he reached the third World Cup giant slalom of the season 2010/11 19 December 2010 on the Gran Risa in Alta Badia third place and thus his first podium. Three weeks later he drove to third place in the giant slalom in Adelboden. In the Alpine World Ski Championships 2011 in Garmisch -Partenkirchen, he won the team competition with the French team. In the giant slalom, he was sixth.

In the 2011/12 season was Fanaras best World Cup result of fifth place at the World Cup finals in Schladming. In another three giant slaloms he went into the top ten. In the winter of 2012/13 he was able to achieve a podium and four other top - 10 finishes.
