Tormod Knutsen

Tormod Kåre Knutsen ( born January 7, 1932 in Eidsvoll ) is a former Norwegian Nordic skier.

Career

His first successes collected Knutsen at national level. He won at the Norwegian Championships 1955 in Trysil bronze in the individual behind Sverre Stenersen and Gunder Gundersen. The following year at the Norwegian Championships in 1956 in Drammen, he improved to the silver medal.

1958 Knutsen won the combination competition at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival. The following Norwegian Championships 1959 in Porsgrunn and the Norwegian Championships 1960 in Mjøndalen he won twice in a row the title in singles.

At the Olympic Winter Games in 1960 in Squaw Valley, he won the silver medal behind Georg Thoma behind the German Georg Thoma. Two years later, he missed at the Nordic World Ski Championships 1962 in Zakopane with fourth place barely a medal. In the Norwegian Championships in 1963 in Kristiansand and the Norwegian Championships in Voss 1964 he again won two consecutive national titles in singles.

At the Olympic Winter Games in 1964 in Innsbruck, he finally won shortly before his career end the gold medal in the Nordic combined.

Awards

1960 Knutsen was awarded the Holmenkollen medal. In the city library of Eidsvoll since 2009 dedicates a small-scale exhibition panorama the success of Knutsen. In 2010 he was made an honorary citizen of Eidsvoll.
