Torricella, Apulia

Torricella ( in the local dialect Turricèdda or Turicèdda ) is a Southeast Italian commune ( comune ) with 4222 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Taranto in Apulia. The community is located about 25.5 kilometers southeast of Taranto in Salento. With its hamlets Torre Ovo, Librari and Truglione the municipality is located directly on the Ionian Sea.

History

Torricella is believed to have originated in the 11th century. But the district Monacizzo is older date.
