Palagiano

Palagiano is a southern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 16,111 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the province of Taranto in Apulia. The municipality stretches few kilometers north of the Gulf of Taranto in the Murgia into it. It is located about 18 kilometers northwest of Taranto. Through the municipal area, the rivers flow Lato and Lenne.

History

Around the first millennium Palagiano was attached and been besieged several times. Over time, the place was under the Ottonian rule, but also Neapolitan rule.

Traffic

Through the municipal area leads the Autostrada A14, which runs from Bologna to Taranto. Furthermore, the Strada Statale 7 and the Strada Statale 106 traverse the municipality. The Palagiano / Mottola station is served by trains on the railway line from Bari to Taranto. The lying directly on the Gulf of Taranto district Chiatona has a railway station served by trains of the Jonica railway ( Taranto - Reggio Calabria) is approached.
