Laterza

Laterza ( in the local dialect Latérzə ) is a Southern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 15,316 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the province of Taranto in Apulia. History

In the municipality remains of a necropolis dating back to 2000 BC are available. Later it was the Peucetians who settled here. The name itself probably derives from Greek settlers who named the place after the mythical Laertes.

Traffic

Not far away is the Autostrada A14 from Bologna to Taranto. By the municipality itself causes the Strada Statale 7 Appia, whose penultimate piece of Matera to Taranto leads. The nearest railway station is located in Matera.
