The UEFA five year ranking - also called UEFA coefficient - is drawn up by the UEFA rankings. The country rating is used to determine the number of European Football Cup starting positions of the individual state associations. The club rating is (League and UEFA Europa League UEFA Champions ) used in draws in the UEFA club competitions up to and including the group stage for the division of Lostöpfe.

  • 2.1 club coefficient 2013
  • 3.1 Scoring
  • 3.2 Current score
  • 3.3 history

Country rating

Originally, the UEFA five year ranking was introduced to determine the number of starting places in the UEFA Cup for the individual state associations. With the expansion of the Champions League group box from the 1997/98 season and the event of the Intertoto Cup by UEFA since 1995 also here revealed a distribution of starter courses by state associations. Today, the five- year ranking determines which association with as many clubs in the Champions League and the Europa League is represented in the contest and enter to what stage the clubs. The higher a league is in the five-year rating, the more clubs from this division have the opportunity to participate in international competition. In addition, the club rating that take into account also the particular state of the five-year evaluation, used as a last decision criterion is if, for example, point - and torgleich occur after the group stage two teams in one place and fell in direct comparison no decision.

When assigning the starting places the five-year summary of the just ended season is not used, but the season before last. This has the advantage that it is known at the beginning of a season already, which placements are required at the end for the achievement of the various European competitions. Thus, the starting places will be awarded on the basis of the UEFA five year ranking of 29 June 2012 for the season 2013/14.

The UEFA released the ultimately valid rating only start of the season or end. All intermediate results during the season are, in principle, to be regarded with reservations, since they are not officially confirmed.

Current score

From the summary of the seasons 2007/ 08 up to and including the 2011/12 season, the number of participants for the current European Cup 2013/14 season determined. The value in the Total 2012/13 column already determined the award for the competition 2014 /15 campaign. The UEFA Congress has added Gibraltar and confirmed that clubs from the country starting from the season 2014/15 will participate in the UEFA competitions in May 2013 as a full member. Therefore, Gibraltar is already taken into account in the scoring.

Calculation of the coefficient of an association

A national association receives points for success of his club teams in UEFA competitions, so wins, draws and the achievement of certain rounds. The counters for all clubs are added and divided by the number of participating clubs of the national association. The result is after the third decimal place basically rounded ( no " commercial " rounding ).

Points are scored only ever actually been games. Should a match be decided " on the drawing board ", so this is no counter will be awarded. In addition, always only the result counts after 90 or 120 minutes of playing time. A possible penalty shoot-out will not be considered in the allocation counter.

There are only counted teams that have reached at least the qualification for the Champions League or the Europa League. Other competitions such as the discharged until 2008 Intertoto Cup and the UEFA Super Cup are not considered.

The coefficients determined in this way should make the respective skill level of the various nations comparable, although they may exert a different number of teams in the field of participants, depending on the starting position. These coefficients are summed over five seasons and yield the UEFA five year ranking. Each year the oldest ranking falls out from the valuation and is replaced by the current one.

Allocation of the slots

Space distribution for the European Cup:

Exception: Liechtenstein occurs only at the national cup winner, since no separate league operation is performed.

Addition, there is one representative for the Europa League, which qualified through the national cup competition.

Since the season 2009/10, 22 teams will qualify directly for the group stage, 55 qualifiers will play in up to four rounds to 10 more starting places. The fourth qualifying round is called "Play -off round " and centrally marketed by UEFA in order to generate higher advertising revenues can.

There are two qualifying routes the Champions Path and the placement path. In Champions - way play exclusively national champion ( "champions" ) of low-ranking nations against each other in Platzierungsweg only second, third and fourth-placed teams from higher-ranked nations. In this way it is ensured that the participants in the group stage in the future are spread over more and more real origin Nations champions are represented, as these can not be superseded by pursuers from stronger nations.

Liechtenstein has the absence of league of its own operation is no defined start right in the Champions League. The clubs of the Principality compete in the Swiss league and could at best as Swiss champions reach the Champions League. Thus, Liechtenstein is passed over in the nations ranking.

  • Master of the associations ranked 48 to 53

This ranking is shifted according to the direct qualification to the Defender. Principle here is that no additional starting places will be created for a successful state association by double qualifications. The defending champion will only get another starting place if he could not qualify for one of the competitions themselves. An additional rule also expressly prohibits more than four representatives of a nation in the Champions League attend. Vacant seats are moved to below placed nations, which may account for a game pairing in the first qualifying round.

Examples

1) The Defender (TV) is qualified through his National League for the group stage of the Champions League ( CL):

  • The national champions from 13th disengaged from 3 qualification into the group stage.
  • The national champions of rank 16 inherits the newly available space in qualifying 3 and the national champion of ranks 48 and 49 will advance to Round 2.
  • In qualifying round 1 a game is eliminated.

2) The TV is qualified for the placement round of CL:

  • The weakest team from the nation of TV, which would be eligible to play by league table for the group stage, swapping positions with the TV and has its place deny the placement round.
  • The national champion in the stands 13, 16 and 48/49 back after analogue to case 1, in round Q1 deleted a game.
  • Exception: TV is vice-champion of Nations ranks 13-15. The master switches from Championsweg to the runner-up position in the Platzierungsweg it back only the masters of ranks 16 and 48/49 as in case 1 after, in round Q1 deleted a game.

  • 1-3 the TV, so the table Fourth loses due to the additional rule his CL- launch site in the placement round and plays only in the EL, bringing the number of participants remains unchanged in both competitions, and only the start positions are shifted slightly Represents a nation of ranks: Exception.

6) The TV is about his National League (or round of the cup ) for either CL or EL eligible to play:

  • The TV plays as an additional starter in the group stage, all other teams retain their respective starting positions. Only in this rare case, the true start pattern, there are no substitutes.
  • Exception: If a nation of Ranks 1-3 the TV, so the table Fourth loses due to the additional rule his CL- launch site in the placement round and plays only in the EL. The national association receives an additional, favorable starting place in the EL.

Europa League (formerly UEFA Cup and Intertoto Cup )

The UEFA Cup and the " UEFA Intertoto Cup" (short: UI - Cup), in 2009 merged under the new name " UEFA Europa League " changed the game mode here is that the former first main round before the group stage since then "Play called -off round " and centrally marketed by UEFA. It is no longer part of the main competition, but only one for the qualification phase ( halved counter for the five-year evaluation).

Qualifying rounds

The following list is the principal reason schema dar. Fixed is unique, which may send the national association as many participants in the Europa League. In which round which club competes concrete is different from year to year as the base schema is always easily changed by double qualifications and other influences. Also is a special rule for Liechtenstein, as the Principality does not have its own league, and participates only with his national cup winner at the European Cup. Plays a winners in the high-order Champions League ( including CL qualifiers ), the best-placed team will receive, which does not participate in CL competition, the Cup starting place in the Europa League, while although the defeated Cup finalist receives a start right this but subordinated is compared with the starting positions on the league table and a Ligapokalsieg1. A unterklassiger club can qualify through a trophy success for the Europa League. If both Cup finalists qualify for the international competition, moves to an additional starter out of the league table. Since the 2012/13 season, the Cup Winners' Cup the foremost six nations start next to the title defender directly in the main competition, and are therefore exempt from all qualifiers.

  • The Cup Winners Cup of Nations 33-53
  • Second, the table of nations 28-53 2
  • Third, the table of nations 22 to 51 2
  • The three Fair Play winners
  • The 39 winners of the Qualification Round 1
  • The Cup Winners Cup of Nations 19 to 32
  • Second, the table of nations 16 to 27
  • Third, the table of nations 16 to 21
  • The Table of Nations Fourth 10 to 15
  • The Table of Nations Fifth 7-9
  • The 40 winners of the Qualification Round 2
  • The Cup Winners Cup of Nations 16 to 18
  • Third, the table of nations 10 to 15
  • The Table of Nations Fourth 7-9
  • The Table of Nations Fifth 4-6 1
  • The Table of Nations Sixth 1 to 3 1
  • The 29 winners of the qualifying round 3
  • The 15 losers from CL qualifying round 3
  • The Cup Winners Cup of Nations 7-15
  • Third, the table of nations 7-9
  • The Table of Nations Fourth 4-6
  • The Table of Nations Fifth 1-3

If a starting place to stay vacant, move the top ranked each cup winners from the qualifying rounds to lower by one round. In the first qualifying round will move up two Cup Winners' Cup, and it eliminates a lot. If there are several free parking, this method is applied repeatedly. For example, there were in the 2012/13 season in exceptional cases only 14 instead of the normal 15 matches in the third qualifying round of the Champions League. Thus there were only 14 instead of 15 losers who competed in the play-off round of the Europa League, and thus a place in the play-off round of the Europa League was open. In addition, Atlético Madrid was qualified as defending champion and fifth -placed La Liga twice in the group stage, giving a second free space, but this time in the group stage meant.

Thus, the Cup Winners advanced from rank 7 of the play-off round of the group stage, that of rank 16 of Q3 in the play-offs, Rank 19 of Q2 after Q3, and the ranks of 33 and 34 from Q1 to Q2, the to close the first gap. Analog engaged in the second step, the cup winner of ranks 17, 20, and 35/36 for one round over. In round Q1 thus remained only 74 participants, which played off only 37 instead of 39 encounters, whereas the other rounds were completed with the normal number of participants.

Main round ( Group Stage )

In addition to the defending champion and the top ten from losing the Champions League play- offs and the Cup Winners' Cup the foremost six nations are now qualified directly for the group stage. If the title holder is qualified for the CL ( or comes from the front six nations and has additionally qualified at the state level for the group stage of the EL), so also puts the cup winners of Nations Rank 7 of the playoffs directly into the group stage.

In the main session, participants will be drawn similar to CL in groups of four teams each, and carried out a full series of round-trip games in six games. Due to the higher number of participants in this phase (48 instead of 32 in the CL ), there are twelve instead of just eight groups. The table first and second come on, divorced Third- and fourth - off.

Final round ( knockout round )

The final round begins with the " Round of 32 " at UEFA also simply called " Round 2 " called - The group stage carries the official title " Round 1 ". In German, the term " Round of " is known. In addition to the 24 group winners and runners- occur at the eight third group of the CL group stage. These 32 teams will play in the knockout mode, in home and away matches, the two finalists from. The group winners and the four CL- participants with the highest club coefficient are set, unset the group runners-up and four CL participants with lower KK. Teams, which already met each other in the group stage will not be drawn against each other, as well as comparisons of two teams from the same nation are still excluded. Only from the second round are no more exclusion rules, there is " every man for himself " drawn and played.

The finale consists of a single game, the venue is already set several years in advance of UEFA. In rare cases, this causes a " home game" by a Finalist has the good fortune to be able to compete in their own stadium. This happened on May 18, 2005, when Sporting Lisbon in their own José Alvalade Stadium, could contest the final against CSKA Moscow. However, the Portuguese could not use these home advantage and lost with 1:3. Better, however, made it Feyenoord Rotterdam three years earlier, when they defeated the home stadium De Kuip Borussia Dortmund 3-2 and won the UEFA Cup. The finale is always held on a Wednesday. Offense is basically about 20:45 clock CEST.

History

Since the introduction of the five- year ranking in 1960 there were four different European leagues, which could take the lead. The following table shows the period during which league was on the first place in the standings.

UEFA club coefficient

So do not hit right at the beginning of the season the strongest clubs in each other, at the draw for the match pairings with the help of the club scoring a set list is created. This is an early withdrawal of the favorites can be prevented, so that the voltage is maintained as long as possible. This means that clubs that are located in the upper area of the club standings, clubs will be drawn, which are located at the bottom of the club championship. Valid this is always the club championship, which was published at the end of the last season of UEFA. Points that have been earned in the current season, have no effect.

Every team gets the points that he has earned in the last five years for its association plus 20% of the country coefficients of each year (up to 2008/09 were 33 % by 2003/ 04 it was 50%).

But there are some differences in the points awarded to the country ranking: When calculating the club coefficient reached in all qualifying matches results will be ignored. By 2009, this meant that all the clubs no points were given up to the start of the competition, regardless of how successful they were before in the qualifying competitions. This was attenuated with the start of the 2009/10 season by the bonus points system of qualification something. Teams that are eliminated in the qualifying, then get 0.25 to 1.5 points for reaching the round in which they are excreted and that the following pattern:

Europa League

  • Eliminated in the first round of the Europa League qualifying: 0.25 Points
  • Eliminated in the second round of the Europa League qualifier: 0.5 bonus points
  • Eliminated in the third round of the Europa League qualifiers: 1 bonus point
  • Eliminated in the play-offs of the Europa League qualifier: 1.5 bonus points

Champions League

  • Eliminated in the first round of the Champions League qualifiers: 0.5 bonus points
  • Eliminated in the second round of the Champions League qualifiers: 1 bonus point
  • Eliminated in the third round of the Champions League Qualification: Club goes into the play-offs of the Europa League and collects there on his points.
  • Eliminated in the play-offs of the Champions League qualifiers: Club joins the group stage of the Europa League and accumulated there his points further.

From the group stage, there are both in the Champions League and in the Europa League for a win 2 points and 1 point per draw.

In addition, there are also bonus points:

Europa League

  • Guaranteed minimum in the group stage of the Europa League 2 points (only if a club has achieved less than 2 points on completion of the group stage ) - The Guaranteed minimum does not contribute to the determination of the country coefficients.
  • For reaching the quarter-finals in the Europa League 1 point.
  • For the semi-finals in the Europa League 1 point.
  • For reaching the finals in the Europa League 1 point.

Champions League

  • For reaching the group stage in the Champions League four points.
  • For reaching the knockout round in the Champions League 5 points.
  • For reaching the quarter-finals in the Champions League 1 point.
  • For the semi-finals in the Champions League 1 point.
  • For reaching the finals in the Champions League 1 point.

In summary, results for the club coefficient ranking the sum of a club from the addition of:

  • Bonus points for the achievement of certain qualifying rounds (both competitions)
  • Bonus points for reaching the group phase ( only Champions League)
  • The accumulated points from the group stage (both competitions)
  • The Guaranteed minimum of 2 points if a club in the group stage less than 2 points earned (Europa League only )
  • All points scored in the finals including bonus points

Club coefficient 2013

The club coefficient listed in the table were used for selection of the individual rounds to qualify for the Champions League 2013/14 as well as the Europa League 2013/14, laying down the pots for the draw for the group stages and are the ultimate criterion for deciding on the placement in the group stage.

(Updated: May 25, 2013)

Clubs which have achieved over the last five years, no evaluation points will not be considered in the ranking.

Women rating

As in the UEFA Women's Champions League also start places are awarded (the eight strongest associations receive a second place ), there is a separate five- year rankings for the women. The first eight organizations receive two secure starting places in the Round of the associations ranked nine to 14 a safe starting point. The behind next seven associations must, depending on the number of participating teams, possibly in the qualification. All courses start from 27 down safely in the qualifying round.

Scoring

Until the 2008/09 season was always eligible to play only one team per association (except holders). So there were two points for a win, one point for a draw, no points for a defeat as well as one bonus point for reaching the quarter finals, the semi-finals and the finals. Notwithstanding this, the points were halved from the first qualifying round.

From the 2009/10 season, the format was changed, a new system was therefore required. The points per game remained unchanged. Even halving during the first qualifying session was not changed. Due to the increased number of teams, there are two more rounds (a sixteenth - and second round ). To reach the second round there is therefore also a bonus point. In order not to penalize the teams are directly qualified for the round of every team gets that qualifies for this round, three points. Teams that have qualified via the qualification round, get no points from this round ( for this they receive yes the three points for reaching this round ). Points for the qualification round thus receive only the teams that are eliminated in this round.

Current score

From the evaluation, including the past season 2012/13, the number of participants for the competition 2014/15 determined.

From Armenia and Azerbaijan before teams had participated, but no more in the last five years. From Andorra, Liechtenstein and San Marino has yet taken no team (as of June 2013).

History

In order to decide which teams are set for the first round of the Uefa Women's Cup and since the launch of the Champions League which organizations can report a second participant, or are placed directly on the round of, there is also a five- year rankings for the women. The following table shows the period during which league was on the first place in the standings.
