Union of the Baltic Cities

The Union of the Baltic Cities (English Union of the Baltic Cities ) is an association of currently 107 cities in the ten Baltic Sea countries. It serves as a decentralized network of cross-border municipal cooperation in the Baltic region.

The Union of the Baltic Cities (UBC ) was in September 1991 in Danzig (Polish Gdańsk), after the fall of the Iron Curtain, created by 32 cities of the Baltic region to life. The basis of the cooperation is the commitment to joint development of democracy, economic, social, cultural and environmental protection in the member cities.

The supreme body of UBC 's General Conference. It occurs every two years in a member city. The General Conference shall elect an executive council, which each belongs to one city of each Baltic country. In addition to the Executive Council of the UBC consists of 13 committees.

The General Assembly elects the President of UBC. He is assisted by three vice-presidents and a secretary. The Secretariat is Danzig. The current President of the UBC is Per Bødker Andersen, who was from 1985 to 2009 Mayor of Kolding, Denmark.
