Usseglio

Usseglio ( Piedmontese Ussèj, Franco-Provençal usei or Isseui, French Ussel ) is a municipality with 215 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2012) in the Italian province of Turin (TO ), Region Piedmont.

The municipality consists of the villages Piazzette, Pianetto, Chiaberto, Cortevicio, Villaretto, Crot, Perinera, Quagliera, Margone, Malciaussia and Pian Benot. Neighboring municipalities are Balme, Bessans Bruzolo, Bussoleno, Chianocco, Condove Lemie, Mompantero and Novalesa. Patron saint of the place is Maria Assunta.

Geography

The town is located 61 km north-west of Turin at an altitude of 1260 m above sea level. The municipal area extends between 1200 m and 1800 m above sea level and covers an area of ​​98.01 km ². The place is located in the upper Valle di Viù (Valley of Viù ), one of the three valleys, which are collectively referred to as Valli di Lanzo.

History

The name appears in the form of Uxeillo and Uxello in documents from 1224 and 1269 and comes from the Celtic word uxeilos, which means as much as high and thus describe the geographic location of the place.
