Villar Perosa

Villar Perosa (Li Vialar to Occitan, Piedmontese ël Vilar Ed Perouza ) is a municipality with 4132 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Italian province of Turin (TO ), Region Piedmont. It is located in one of the three Waldensian valleys, the Val Chisone, and is part of the joint management Comunità Montana Valli Chisone e Germanasca.

The neighboring municipalities are Pinasca, San Pietro Val Lemina, Inverso Pinasca, San Germano Chisone and Porte.

The first machine gun in the world, the Villar- Perosa M1915, was named after the birthplace of their producer Giovanni Agnelli, owner of Fiat, named.

The municipality covers an area of 11 km ². It lies about 40 km southwest of Turin.

Culture and sights

In the village, the summer villa of the 18th century the industrial Agnelli family, "Il Castello " is called. The property is over two acres in size and is still regarded as one of the most magnificent summer homes in Piedmont.

Partnerships

Partnership agreements maintains Villar Perosa with the Italian community Pizzoni in Calabria and with the German town of Oberderdingen in Baden -Württemberg.

Sons and daughters

  • Giovanni Agnelli, the founder of Fiat, was born in 1866 in Villar Perosa. He was mayor of 1895 to 1945. His grandson Gianni Agnelli was mayor from 1945 to 1980.
