Yolanda Griffith

Yolanda Evette Griffith ( born March 1, 1970 in Chicago, Illinois, United States) is a former professional basketball player who played from 1999 to 2009 for the Sacramento Monarchs, Seattle Storm and the Indiana Fever in the Women's National Basketball Association.

Career

ABL (1997 to 1998)

In 1997, she was selected by the Long Beach Stingrays in the first place in the ABL Draft. In its first and only season in the ABL she led the Stingrays equal to the ABL finals. In the final series, she had to admit defeat with the Stingrays with 2-3 almost the Columbus Quest. Griffith was elected at the end of the season for the ABL Defensive Player of the Year. In addition, she managed the leap into the All- ABL first team. As the team but after the end of this season ended the game mode, it temporarily played for the Chicago Condors in their hometown. However, the league was disbanded in the Condors played on 22 December 1998.

WNBA (1999 to 2009)

Griffith was selected in the second place in the WNBA 1999 draft by the Sacramento Monarchs. In the 1999 season, she was voted the MVP of the season and defensive player of the season. She celebrated her biggest success in the 2005 season when they won the championship with the Monarchs for the first time. After the Monarchs the Connecticut Sun had defeated in the final series 3-1, Griffith was elected Finals MVP. After nine seasons in Sacramento Griffith signed on 8 April 2008 a one-year contract with the Seattle Storm. The Storm featured in the 2008 season to arguably the strongest squad in the league, but they came with the Storm after a good regular season not on the first round in the playoffs also. On February 20, Griffith signed a one year contract again this time at the Indiana Fever. Later, Griffith announced that she will end her career after this season. On June 9, she moved against their former team the Seattle Storm to an Achilles tendon rupture. Due to this injury, she had to finish this season and her career early.

International (2000 to 2004)

Griffith brought to the U.S. women's basketball team at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney and at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, the gold medal.
