Yvonne Meusburger

Yvonne Meusburger ( born October 3, 1983 in Dornbirn) is an Austrian tennis player.

Career

Meusburger joined at the beginning of her career at ITF tournaments. She won there previously 15 singles and nine doubles titles.

From the end of 2006 Meusburger has been improved significantly. Within a short time she won the ITF title in Mexico City, Puebla and Biberach an der Riss. On WTA level they played in Auckland on the qualification to the knockout stages and in Indian Wells ( Tier I) also as a qualifier to the third round where she failed at the former world number one Martina Hingis. This was followed by winning the Challenger tournament in Italian Latina.

At the tournament in Prague Meusburger scored a victory over the number 40 in the world rankings, the Dutch Michaëlla Krajicek. They therefore pushed for the first time among the top 100 in the WTA ranking, which she was qualified for the French Open. There, she defeated Francesca Schiavone in the first round.

At the Grand Slam tournament at Wimbledon, she continued their upward trend. She beat Virginie Razzano in the first round 6-4, 7-5, in round two she moved against Amélie Mauresmo with 1:6, 2:6 the short straw.

At home tournament in Bad Gastein Meusburger defeated in the first round, As number two Émilie Loit 6:1, 6:3. In the eighth and in the quarterfinals they beat their opponents Eva Birnerova ( 6-4, 6-1 ) and Lourdes Domínguez Lino (6:1, 6:4 ) clearly and moved into her first WTA semi-finals. There you stood against one of the newly promoted inside the year with Karin Knapp. Meusburger also kept the upper hand and won 6:1, 3:6, 6:3. Her first WTA final but lost it against the top seed Francesca Schiavone with 1:6, 4:6.

After the success in Bad Gastein, the Meusburger in the world rankings earned number 60, followed by numerous opening defeats. Only at the tournament in Linz she was able to prevail in the first round against her compatriot Melanie Klaffner, they failed in the first knockout round but to Nicole Vaidišová.

At the beginning of 2008 Meusburger reached the second round in Auckland (NZL ). At the Australian Open, she came with a win over Laura Granville in round two, where she defeated Ekaterina Makarova in straight sets.

Then on their Latin America tour she could at the tournaments in Bogota ( COL) and Acapulco ( MEX) to reach the knockout stages, respectively. After her ripped the thread: She lost both tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami, as well as at the French Open, Estoril and in Prague in the first round. At the U.S. Open, she came to a decisive victory over Lourdes Domínguez Lino in round two, in which they again Srebotnik had to admit defeat. After the U.S. Open, there was Meusburger in the two doped with $ 100,000 Challenger tournaments in Sofia ( BUL) and in Ortisei (ITA ) each clear opening defeats. At the Australian Open, she was defeated in the first round of the former world number one Jelena Janković with 1:6, 3:6. In the summer, she won the ITF tournaments of Hechingen and Tranava, where she and her partner Jasmin Woehr also won the doubles competition in Hechingen.

2013 was best year so far to Meusburger. After several victories in challengers, she managed not only finals in Budapest, where she was defeated in three sets Simona Halep; they also reached their second final in Bad Gastein. In contrast to her first appearance there in 2007 she was able to clear this time to enforce ( against Andrea Hlaváčková ) in two sets, and thus win her first WTA tournament. On February 3, 2014, it achieved its best ranking as number 38 of the WTA rankings.

Fed Cup

Since 2003 Meusburger is for Austria Fed Cup team in action, its first operation she had on the side of Sybille Bammer ( losing to Kim Clijsters and Els Callens ). In 2004, she lost in the semifinals against Russia both individual against Svetlana Kuznetsova and Anastasia Myskina. In 2005 she won the match against France Nathalie Dechy against, losing to Virginie Razzano. It was a win and one loss and in their delivery against Switzerland. 2006 in the match against Spain against Anabel Medina Garrigues lost or (in the double with Bammer ) Virginia Ruano Pascual and Lourdes Domínguez Lino. As the Austrian team in the Fed Cup against Israel played for the promotion to the World Group 1, there sat two severe defeats for them. After Austria's number 1, Sybille Bammer, was ill, Meusburger had to stand in for them in singles. She lost against Shahar Peer and Tzipora Obziler each with 3:6, 1:6. This was hampered by a stomach strain and a wisdom tooth operation which had to leave them a few days earlier endure. In 2007, she was used only against Australia in the doubles where they could not prevail as already against Israel. The Fed Cup appearance against Argentina was unsatisfactory; the number one of the Austrian team lost clearly against the little-known Jorgelina Cravero.
