Zungri

Zungri is an Italian town in the province of Vibo Valentia in Calabria with 1994 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Location and data

Zungri located 20 km southwest of Vibo Valentia and about 5 km from the sea. The village is situated at 571 m above sea level on the north side of the Poro Hochplateurs and covers an area of ​​24 km ², with a population of 2229 ' Zungresi '. The first known written mention dates back to 1310. Borders the following municipalities Briatico, Cessaniti, Drapia, Filandari, Rombiolo, Spilinga and Zaccanopoli.

Attractions

The municipal area are still traces of medieval settlements. This is to cave dwellings carved into the cliff ( tuff ) were carved on extending the present town. The cave dwellings, around a hundred individual ' home towns ' with sometimes several rooms, date from the 12th to 14th centuries.
