Vallelonga

Vallelonga is an Italian town in the province of Vibo Valentia in Calabria with 687 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2012).

Location and data

Vallelonga located 28 kilometers east of Vibo Valentia on the Tyrrhenian side of the Serre. The neighboring municipalities are Filogaso, San Nicola da Crissa, Simbario, Torre di Ruggiero (CZ) and Vazzano.

Attractions

In the village stands the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Monserrato. The church is a popular place of pilgrimage especially on the second Sunday in July, the Marian feast. The origin of the church is unknown. At least since 1550, there is the present church. It was renewed in the course of time several times. The facade is a baroque portal and broken three times.
