Geography

Geographical location

Zusmarshausen lies on the cooperation, shortly before the opening of the Roth Roth and west of the lake. The Federal Highway 10 runs through the city. Augsburg is located 23 km east of Zusmarshausen.

History

The region around Zusmarshausen was already inhabited since the Paleolithic period, such as the hand ax found in 2008 by Wörle exuberance proves.

The birth of the village is suspected in the 7th or 8th century. Zusmarshausen was first mentioned by King Arnulf in the year 892. 1295 the village was raised to market.

With the Battle of Zusmarshausen the last major battle of the Thirty Years' War, took place on May 17, 1648. Today, the logo of the local brewery, a flag-wavers from the time of the Thirty Years' War, and the beers labeled " Sweden Pils " recalls the importance of those events for the place.

In 1684, the town got a post station on the road Paris - Vienna.

With the Imperial Diet of 1803 Zusmarshausen came from the Bishopric of Augsburg and the districts today Gabelbachergreut and stones from the church cathedral chapter of Augsburg Bavaria. The ruins of the medieval castle high Wolfsberg from the 10th century can be found at the hamlet of stone church. On the mountain Antoni is an enigmatic ramparts. Their origin is the subject of much archaeological speculation.

A public observatory is located in the district Streitheim. Opened on the day of the total solar eclipse, 11 August 1999.
