1985 ABC Championship
The basketball Asia Championship 1986 ( officially: FIBA Asia Championship for Men 1986) was the 13th edition of this tournament and took place from December 28th 1985 to January 5th, 1986 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia instead. It was organized by FIBA Asia, the Asian Basketball Federation. The tournament was attended by 15 teams. The top three teams qualified for the World Basketball Championship in 1986.

Preliminary round
The first round was carried out in three groups of four teams and one group with three teams. The winner of the match was awarded two points, the loser one point.
