2005 World Men's Handball Championship
The 19th World Handball Championship for men was held in Tunisia from 23 January to 6 February 2005. A total of 24 teams entered in the preliminary round and main round, first in groups against each other. This was followed by placement matches for places 5 to 12 as well as the semi-finals, third-place match and final. World Champion 2005 Spain was for a 40:34 final win against Croatia.

Main Round
The main round of the 2005 World Championship was first played in two groups. In group 1, each played the first three teams in the preliminary round group A and B, in group 2, respectively, the first three teams in the preliminary round groups C and D. The game results achieved against each other in the preliminary round are transferred to the main round. The first two teams from Group 1 and 2 contested the semi-finals, the remaining teams played the slots 5 through 12. The winners of the semi-finals determined the World Champion 2005, the losers playing for third place tournament.
