The Primera División 2009/10 was the 79th season in the history of Spanish football league. The season began on 29 August 2009, and ended on 16 May 2010.

Preseason

  • As defending champion, the 19- time champions FC Barcelona went into the race. Last year's runner-up was Real Madrid.
  • División Moved up from the Segunda were Xerez, Real Zaragoza and CD Tenerife.

International Competitions

The table Fifth, RCD Mallorca, was not approved by the Control and Disciplinary Body due to financial problems of the UEFA Europa League, because it could not meet the necessary eligibility criteria ( Article 2.07 of the Regulations of the UEFA Europa League). This brought Villarreal after as a table seventh.

The Pichichi Trophy is awarded annually for the best scorers of the season.

Zamora trophy

The Zamora Trophy is awarded annually for the goalkeeper with the fewest goals against per game. To get into the score, the player must contest of 60 minutes at least 28 encounters.
