2009–10 Swiss Cup

The 85th Swiss Cup was held until May 2010 from September 2009. Defending champion was the FC Sion, who has already failed in the second round on unterklassigen FC Thun. Cup winner was FC Basel.

The mode

Ten teams of the Axpo Super League and 15 clubs in the Challenge League were directly qualified for the Swiss Cup (not eligible to play in the Challenge League was the FC Vaduz, who participated in the Liechtenstein Cup). These met with 13 clubs from the 1st League and 26 clubs from the amateur leagues. This must qualify for the Swiss Cup in regional selections.

It was played in the all-in - system. Each round should take place within a maximum of two days, but there was of it but always deviations. In the first round and the fourth round games have been preferred in the second round had to be postponed a game. The final took place after a year break again take place in Basel's St. Jakob- Park.

1/32-Finals ( 17 to 20 September 2009): 64 teams, the winners were qualified for the 1/16-Finals.

1/16-Finals ( 17 and 18 October 2009): 32 teams, the winners were qualified for the knockout round.

Last sixteen ( 20 to 22 November 2009): 16 teams, the winners were qualified for the quarter-finals.

Quarter Finals ( 10 to 13 December 2009): 8 teams, the winners were qualified for the semi-finals.

Semi-finals (5 April 2010) :: 4 teams, the winners qualified for the final.

Finale (9 May 2010): The winner won the 85th Swiss Cup.

First round

The teams of the Axpo Super League and the Challenge League could not meet. Teams from a lower league had home advantage. The draw was held in Cham on 21 August 2009.

Second Round

The teams of the Axpo Super League could not meet. Was a team in a lower league, this was the home advantage, otherwise the erstgezogene team. The draw was held in Zurich on 21 September 2009.

On September 24 it was announced that the FC Locarno would cede his home right on the opponent, the FC Zurich. Next FC Wil and FC Serrières NE came to her home right from the FC St. Gallen and Neuchâtel Xamax. As a side effect, a discussion was triggered, whether small clubs will probably cede her home right for many unterklassige would the Cup to the " financial burden ".

The match between FC Muotathal and FC Töss, which was originally scheduled on 17 October, had to be postponed for a week due to snow.
