2013 Spanish Grand Prix
The Grand Prix of Spain 2013 ( official Formula 1 Gran Premio de España, 2013) took place on May 12th at the Circuit de Catalunya in Montmeló place and was the fifth race of the Formula 1 season 2013. Fernando Alonso ( Ferrari) won ahead of Kimi Raikkonen ( Lotus ) and Felipe Massa (Ferrari).

Background
After the Bahrain Grand Prix Sebastian Vettel led the drivers' standings with ten points ahead of Kimi Raikkonen with 27 Points before Lewis Hamilton. Red Bull -Renault resulted in the constructors' championship with 16 points, ahead of Lotus -Renault, and with 32 points ahead of Ferrari.
At the Grand Prix of Spain presented the Pirelli P Zero tire compounds drivers the hardware (orange) and P Zero medium ( white ) and for wet Cinturato Intermediates (green) and Cinturato Full Wets (blue ) are available. The mixture P Zero hardware was modified prior to the Grand Prix. In addition, there was the Friday practice a set of a new mixture.
With Raikkonen (twice), Fernando Alonso, Felipe Massa, Jenson Button, Mark Webber, Vettel and Pastor Maldonado ( once each ) were seven former winners of this Grand Prix.
As race stewards acted Silvia Bellot (ESP ), Paul Gutjahr (CHE ), Alan Jones (AUS) and Roger Peart (CAN).
Training
At the beginning of the first free practice session the track was wet and it was raining lightly. During the training, the track dried and the driver switched to slicks. Alonso set the fastest time ahead of his Ferrari team-mate Massa and Jean-Eric Vergne. In this training Heikki Kovalainen took the Caterham Charles Pic and Rodolfo González to Marussia by Max Chilton. Button started any timed lap. In the second session the track was dry. Vettel was the fastest rider ahead of Alonso and Webber. Most teams tested updates of their vehicles. In the third free practice Massa took the lead ahead of Raikkonen and Webber.
After the training sessions, Pat Fry, technical Direct from Ferrari, with an appendicitis was hospitalized.
Qualifying
In the first part of qualifying Hamilton was the fastest pilot. The Caterham, Marussia and Williams driver dropped out. In the second segment Hamilton remained in front. The Sauber and Toro Rosso pilot as well as Button and Adrian Sutil dropped out. In the last part Rosberg took the lead and scored the pole position ahead of Hamilton and Vettel.
Following the qualifying Esteban Gutiérrez and Massa were treated in the starting lineup by three positions to the rear, as they had hindered an opponent. Gutiérrez in the first section Raikkonen and Massa in the second section Webber.
Race
Pole sitter Rosberg drove a relatively slow warm-up lap, so that the third-placed Vettel complained about him. At the start Rosberg remained in the lead. Vettel went to Hamilton over to the second position. Shortly after Hamilton lost another position to Alonso, whose team-mate Massa was gone in the first round on Sergio Pérez to sixth place. In the next round there was no overtaking in the top group and the driver started to conserve their tires. In the seventh round, finally passed and Raikkonen at Hamilton and finally closed on the leading trio on. One lap later, Massa overtook Hamilton also. Massa went on the first of the top group to the box.
While Romain Grosjean gave up with a broken rear suspension, graduated from the rest of the management group their pit stops and moved from the softer to the harder compound. Here, Gutierrez went the meantime the lead. Rosberg was initially against his opponent. Alonso managed to drive past the stop to Vettel. He exercised in the next rounds of pressure on Rosberg and finally went in the 13th round past him. Rosberg was also overhauled in this round of Vettel and Massa. As Gutiérrez had gone in the meantime to the pits, Alonso took the lead of the race.
While the Mercedes driver Rosberg and Hamilton fell back gradually, Alonso took off at the top. In lap 21, the phase of the second pit stops by Massa began. One lap later, Alonso, so Vettel took the lead. The two Ferrari drivers drove on the new tires fast laps while Giedo van der Garde lost the left rear wheel and finally gave up on the box. Van der Garde had already noticed that his bike was not properly secured, but was instructed by his team, to drive back to the pits, although this was a breach of the regulations. After Vettel was on the box also, Raikkonen led briefly. However, Alonso was gaining on him. For overtaking on the track, it did not come as Raikkonen pitted.
Alonso sat down into the following rounds at the top. Massa was in second place, while Vettel and Raikkonen dueled for third place. In the Lap 33 Raikkonen finally managed to drive past Vettel. However, he had about 20 seconds behind Alonso. Shortly thereafter completed the driver, who planned a four -stop strategy, their third stop. Raikkonen, who was on a three-stop strategy, stayed outside and took the lead briefly. It was after a few rounds of Alonso, who had new tires, reconditioned. At the stops, there was, however, a collision between Vergne and Nico Hulkenberg, the early the signal was given to Continue. Hulkenberg damaged thereby his front wing and had a second time to a repair pit stop. He was also subject to a stop-and -go penalty. Alonso won the Grand Prix of Spain, finally, for the second time in his career after 2006 Raikkonen and Massa. It was Massa's only podium placing in the 2013 season and also his last for the Scuderia Ferrari. Vettel was fourth, Webber fifth. Pole sitter Rosberg came sixth place finish. The top 10 were completed by Paul di Resta, Button, Pérez and Daniel Ricciardo. Hamilton, who started from second place, finished the race in twelfth place. "Even if this is the third time that I have won a home race, the emotions are still very large, as this would have never happened before. It's nice to be able to give this victory throughout Spain, especially at a time when the land lies for many people in crisis. It is not possible for them to come here to support us. I thank you all for this support and the team that has done a fantastic job. After a far from simple qualifying everything went perfectly, the start, the strategy, pit stops and the households with the tires. At the start I had to make up a few places after I had passed the half of the line, there was no further room for it. So I turned off KERS, so I could use it in the third curve. After I had looked at the GP2 race, I realized that it is possible there to attack the outside. We had to prefer the last stop, there was a slow puncture which meant that the right rear in the last part of the round lost pressure. But fortunately this had a no effect on the final result. I believe that we can use this car to fight for the world championship, because in five races, we are once came in second place and had two victories. From now on, we need to show consistent performance and score as many points as possible, because we are all aware that we are not the fastest. To change this, many people work at the track and at Maranello day and night. "

"With this podium, I am very satisfied. For the team, this was a really nice and fantastic result. If you start from far behind, everything is more difficult, but I managed to get well from the spot and immediately had a fantastic speed. During the first lap I was thanks to the fact that the car was very competitive, a few overtaking maneuvers, which meant that I could be aggressive as I could pay attention to the tires at the same time. By the end I thought that it would be possible to fight with Kimi. But as we taunted the last set of hard tires, those that we thought that they would be the best since they were new, I had oversteer and started much earlier to lose the rear than I had expected this. At the same time I am very pleased with our performance on this route. Now we are on our way to Monaco, a completely different track where overtaking is very difficult. We know that we do not have the fastest car, but all we can do is to continue to work hard with the same effort, because I am sure that we are working in the right direction. "
