The Ferrari F138 is the Formula 1 Ferrari team cars for the 2013 Formula 1 season. He is the 46th Ferrari Formula 1 car. The car was unveiled on February 1, 2013 in Maranello.

The name of the car is made up of the combination of the year and the number of cylinders to put a sign to the last year of the V8 engines. As of the 2014 season 1 V6 turbo engines come in the formula used.

Technology and Development

The F138 is the successor to the F2012. The car hides the " nasal hump " by the newly introduced Eitelkeitsblende. Developed by Simone Resta car called a " Ferrari 056 " V8 engine with a displacement of 2.4 liters, of an output of around 550 kW is powered developed ( ≈ 750 bhp). The brakes come from Brembo, the wheels of OZ Racing and tires Pirelli is ready. Like all Formula 1 cars, the 2013 season is equipped with KERS and DRS to the F138.

Since the wind tunnel in Maranello has undergone a revision, the aerodynamics of the F138 in the work of Toyota Motorsport in Cologne- Mars village was developed.

The F138 is an evolution of last year's cars, Ferrari put in the development of the emphasis on the weight distribution and the reduction in the weight of individual components. The struts that connect the front wing with the nose were redesigned. The side pods of the car were modified to improve aerodynamics. Also, the air intake above the cockpit was modified. The wheel suspension at the front and rear axles have a new geometry, and the exhaust guide has been completely redesigned. The engine was better integrated into the overall concept of the car, so that the connections between engine, chassis and transmission have been completely revised. The weight and size of the KERS were reduced.

Unlike most of the other vehicles, the DRS but not actuated by a button on the steering wheel, but with the foot. For this, an additional pedal is to the left of the brake pedal.

As already its predecessor the Ferrari F138 has a front suspension tie rods instead of struts.

Paint and sponsorship

The F138 is painted in classic red, plus there is on the whole length of the car including a white and a black stripe. On the car visible major sponsors are Hublot, Kaspersky Lab, Santander and Shell.

Driver

Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa continue to be the regular driver in the team. As a test driver Andrea Bertolini are used, Jules Bianchi, Marc Gené, Davide Rigon and Pedro de la Rosa.
