Agugliaro

Agugliaro ( Agujaro in Venetian ) is a municipality with 1411 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Italian province of Vicenza. It is located in Basso Vicentino, near the border with the province of Padua, between the Berici and the Euganean Hills that belong to Vicenza and Padua.

Name

The name probably comes from the Latin Aquilarium, a name which perhaps refers to the rich presence of water, in particular the Bacchiglione, but also with the eagles ( Aquilae ) has been associated.

History

1803 lived 174 families with 758 members in the place. The present municipality was established by merging the municipality Fojascheda that corresponds to today's Località San Marco, and the municipality Agugliaro.
