Alex Pietrangelo

Alexander Pietrangelo ( born January 18, 1990 in King City, Ontario ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player of Italian descent who stands since 2008 with the St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League contract.

Career

Alex Pietrangelo began his career in 2005 in the Greater Toronto Hockey League, where he played for the Toronto Junior Canadiens. Especially by his 13 goals and 31 assists, he was able to draw attention to himself and changed in the summer of 2006 in the Canadian Junior Football League Ontario Hockey League with the Mississauga IceDogs.

For the IceDogs he was already in his debut season a fixed size. He had the best plus / minus value of the team, was the top scoring defender of the team with 52 points in 59 games and finished in the league also ranks second in the scorers list of rookie defenseman Michael Del Zotto behind. In the playoffs, however, the IceDogs were knocked out in the first round, as Pietrangelo was stable in four games without a point. At the end of the season he was voted team in the OHL All- Rookie.

In summer 2007, the team moved to St. Catharines and was named Niagara IceDogs. Pietrangelo was appointed at the beginning of the 2007/ 08 one of the assistant captains of the team and confirmed its qualities during the year as an attacking defender with strengths in the physical game. Once again, he was the top scoring defender of IceDogs with 13 goals and 40 assists and became the All-Star Game the OHL invited. His form in the playoffs the previous year by more clearly, he was able to continue in the final round to his good performances of the regular season this time. Although he missed due to injury in four games, yet he succeeded in six games, five goals and four assists before the IceDogs were eliminated in the second round.

After Pietrangelo has already been counted in the course of the season to the most promising talents of his year, he finally chose the St. Louis Blues in the NHL Entry Draft in 2008 in the first round in fourth place out. Just a few months later he was able to prevail in the training camp of the blues and got a place in the NHL squad the team. There he spent until mid-November, the first month and a half of the season 2008/ 09, before he was sent by the management of Blues back in the OHL with the IceDogs. Overall, he played up to this point eight games in the NHL, where he prepared a goal. Pietrangelo finally finished the OHL season in Niagara and won turn of the year with the Canadian Junior National Team World Championship gold, but was ordered to the end of the AHL season in the Blues farm team Peoria Rivermen, where he completed eight more games in the professional sector.

The 2009/10 season began the defense again with the St. Louis Blues in the NHL and came to mid-December to further nine appearances, in which he also scored his first goal. Then the Blues for the U20 World Youth Championship from him presented, in addition to the silver medal also received numerous individual awards at the Pietrangelo. Following the World Cup, the management sent the defender back to the Niagara IceDogs in the OHL. These transferred him immediately to league rivals Barrie Colts.

In the season 2010/11, Pietrangelo definitively established as a regular player with the St. Louis Blues missed in the regular season only three games. In the following season, Pietrangelo was able to increase again, leading with less than 25 minutes operating time per game and 39 assists on the statistics of the St. Louis Blues. At the end of the season he was voted team for his services to the NHL Second All-Star.

2014 he was with the Canadian National Team Olympic champion.
