Alexander Steen

Alexander "Alex" Steen ( born March 1, 1984 in Winnipeg, Manitoba ) is a Swedish- Canadian professional ice hockey player who currently plays for the St. Louis Blues in the National Hockey League.

He is the son of former NHL player Thomas Steen, who played 1981-1995 for the Winnipeg Jets.

Career

The 1.85 m wide center began his career at the Swedish Västra Frölunda HC club in the Elitserien, before he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 2002 as 24th in the first round of the Maple Leafs. During the 2004/05 season the links Sagittarius played in the Swedish first division club MODO Hockey Örnsköldsvik, his first game in the NHL Steen graduated on 5 October 2005 against the Ottawa Senators. In addition, Steen was nominated for the taking place in the framework program of the NHL All-Star Game 2007 Young Stars Game, where he ran aground in the starting lineup of the teams in the Eastern Conference.

November 24, 2008 Steen was transferred together with Carlo Colaiacovo for Lee Stempniak to the St. Louis Blues. In July 2010, he signed with the Blues a contract extension over four years. The following season, the center was named assistant captain of the team and finished the season with 20 goals and a new personal best value of 51 points from scorer.

During the lockout in the 2012/13 season he returned for 20 games to his former club MODO Hockey in the Elitserien back, scoring 23 points scorer. In October 2013 Steen scored in 10 NHL games, 11 goals and 16 points scorer, and he was named NHL player of the month. Before the NHL break in February 2014 Steen stood with 28 goals on the sixth top scorer in the NHL.

At the Olympic Winter Games 2014, Steen was in the squad of the Swedish national team and won the silver medal.

Steen is a athlete ambassador of development organization Right to Play.
