Alonso de Ibáñez is a province in the northern part of the department of Potosí in the highlands of South American Andes State of Bolivia.

Location

The Alonso de Ibáñez province is one of sixteen provinces in the Potosí Department. It extends between 17 ° 56 'and 18 ° 20' south latitude and between 66 ° 10 ' and 66 ° 48 ' west longitude and covers an area of 2,170 km ². It is bordered on the north by the department of Cochabamba, on the southwest by the Departamento Oruro, on the south by the province of Rafael Bustillo, in the southeast of the province of Charcas, in the north- east by the province Bernardino Bilbao.

The province extends over 75 km in east-west direction and 60 km in north-south direction.

The most important idiom of the province is Quechua, spoken by 88 percent of the population, followed by Aymara (62 percent ) and Spanish ( 49 percent). The provincial capital is Sacaca with 1,862 inhabitants.

96 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 95 percent have no sanitary facilities.

78.5 percent of the working population is employed in agriculture, 0.3 percent in mining, 8.7 percent in industry, 12.5 percent in the service sector.

95.5 percent of the population are Catholics, 3.5 percent are Protestant.

  • Municipio Sacaca - 12,483 inhabitants
