Alt Urgell

The comarca of Alt Urgell is located in the province of Lleida of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia (Spain ) and forms the heartland of the former county of Urgell. The community association has an area of ​​1446.53 km ² and 19,755 inhabitants (2009 ).

Location

The community association is located in the northern part of Catalonia, it is bordered on the east by the Comarcas Cerdanya and Berguedà, on the southeast by Solsonès, on the west by Noguera, Pallars Jussà and Pallars Sobirà and to the north by the Principality of Andorra. Together with the Comarcas Alta Ribagorça, Val d' Aran, Cerdanya, Pallars Jussà, Pallars Sobirà forms the region 's territory Alt Pirineu i Aran.

The whole area of Alt Urgell is located in the mountains of the Pyrenees. The Rio Segre flows through the Comarca from northeast to southwest and feeds the Oliana reservoir. At the confluence of the Segre and Valira, in the largest valley in the region, is the capital of La Seu d' Urgell. In Sant Joan de l' Erm and Tuixent - la Vansa there are two ski resorts.

Economy

The trationellen industries livestock, agriculture and forestry are increasingly being replaced by milk production, building materials and metal industries as well as tourism.
