Ã…nderdalen National Park

The Ånderdalen National Park (Norwegian Ånderdalen nasjonalpark ) is a North - Norwegian National Park on the island of Senja. The park was founded in 1970, to the unspoilt coastline of the island, with its pine and birch forests, mountains, fjords, animal and plant life and cultural heritage to Get and Protect.

The National Park is one of the communities Torsken and Tranøy in the province of Troms. One kilometer east is the Vardnesmyra nature reserve.

Geography, landscape and geology

The Ånderdalen is located in the southern part of Senja. The landscape is characterized by sharp-edged mountains, lakes, rivers, marshes and bogs and pristine jungle. The unusually large and old lodgepole pine forests were one of the reasons for the establishment of national parks. Some trees are around 500 years old.

However, the pine trees grow only up to about 100 moh, followed by a vegetation zone with birch forests, which eventually also soft and natural meadows, marshes and bogs dominated. The predominant rock material in the park is granite.

Flora and Fauna

Grow in the park about 200 flowering plants such as bog asphodel, Korallenwurz and Bladeless cons beard. Nevertheless, the vegetation is rather sparse, which is due to the nutrient-poor Garnitböden. In the marshy areas are mainly cotton grasses, sedges and mosses among others Alps helmet, marsh violet, marsh sweetheart and spotted orchid widespread. On the mountains, among others grow Broom Gentiles, Black crowberry, blueberry, willows and Diapensia lapponica.

About 90 species of birds live in the national park, one of which nest -throated diver, gray geese, whooper swans and other there. Furthermore, one often sees Curlews, Whimbrels, Alpine beach runners, herons and grebes. Birds that nest in the park definitely not, for example, are Waxwings, Treecreeper, Green Woodpeckers, and crossbills.

In the rivers lake trout, three-spined sticklebacks, trout and salmon rarely also live.

The largest mammals are moose, red foxes, hares, stoats and otters.
