Geography

Location

The spa and wine-growing village located east of the Rhine between Koblenz and Bonn in the south to the north in the Rhine-Westerwald Nature Park. The promenade along the Rhine is 1.5 kilometers long, the city forest offers 60 miles of hiking trails. The Hönninger Schlossberg is nine acres of the largest contiguous vineyard in the Middle Rhine.

History

Roman

In the construction of buildings, relics have been found from the Roman and the Frankish period in the 19th and 20th centuries. The present city of Bad Hönningen lay to the north, close to the limit. Middle Ages and Early Modern Times

In a deed of gift from Emperor Henry II and his wife Gwendolyn in the Bamberg Cathedral Chapter Hönningen " Hohingen in Ingerisgowe " ( Engersgau ) was first introduced in 1019 as a possession mentioned.
