Bank of Communications ( bocom or BoComm, Chinese交通银行, Pinyin Jiaotong Yínháng ) is a Chinese company based in Shanghai. The company is listed in the stock indices SSE 50 listed on the Shanghai and Hang Seng Index at the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. In the company of around 50,000 employees.

Company History

Bank of Communications was founded in 1908. The company grew in the early days to the first few major national banks in China which issued bank notes. On November 27, 1934, the first store was opened in Hong Kong. 1949, the company was split into two divisions. From one part of the company, the company bank of Transportation ( Chiao Tung Bank ), the merged and took the name Bank of China with the International Commercial Bank of China originated in Taiwan. In 1971 this company was privatized in Taiwan and created the Mega International Commercial Bank.

In mainland China, the Bank of Communications developed and increased the five largest banks in China. The Bank of Communications has 2,625 stores in China, and further locations in New York City, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Seoul, London and Frankfurt.

In January 2005, the British bank HSBC acquired 19.9 per cent stake in Bank of Communications, the end of 2008 they account for 19.15 percent ( 9.381.484.261 shares).
