China Unicom
China Unicom (中国 联通chinese, full name China United Telecommunications Corporation, Chinese:中国 联合 通信 有限公司) is a state owned telecommunications companies in the People's Republic of China. 52.6 % of the company include the state-owned China Unicom (BVI ) Limited. and China United Telecommunications Corporation Ltd.. The remaining shares are traded on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange ( SEHK: 0762 ): traded and listed on the New York Stock Exchange ( NYSE CHU ). The shares are listed on the Hang Seng Index and China Traded Index.
China Unicom (now Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) founded as a state-owned corporation on July 19, 1994 by the Ministry of Electronics Industry.
The company began as a provider of wireless paging and GSM. Currently it offers a comprehensive set of services such as CDMA2000 mobile networks, long distance and local calls, data communications, Internet access, and IP telephony.
China Unicom and China Netcom merged in early 2009.
