Bärenthal

Bärenthal with 452 inhabitants (as at: September 9, 2011) is the smallest municipality in the district of Tuttlingen in Baden- Württemberg, Germany.

Geography

Geographical location

The small spa resort Bärenthal is in the Upper Danube Nature Park on the Great Heuberg in 650-950 meters altitude. On the boundaries of the municipality, the Upper and Lower Bara Bara for which opens into Fridingen on the Danube in the Danube unite, and is located in the Valley of the place.

Although the total district area of the municipality Bärenthal comprises some 1,270 acres, they are among the smallest independent municipalities in the country Baden -Württemberg due to the small number of inhabitants.

Almost 70 percent of the municipal area is covered by forest.

The municipality is bordered to the north by Nusplingen in Zollernalbkreis, to the east by Irndorf, to the south of Beuron in the district of Sigmaringen and Fridingen on the Danube, on the west by Kolbingen and Renquishausen and to the northwest by Egesheim.

History

Even from the time of pre-and early history were found to bear Thaler district finds that suggest human habitation. At the end of the 20th century were two Bronze Age bracelets found. After the Celts, the Romans came. The Bärenthal was located in the Roman Empire in the protected hinterland of Alblimes. From this time the finds of Roman coins with the inscription of the Emperor Trajan come. The Romans were in turn displaced by the Alemanni. In December 2007, human skeletons were in development work in the industrial area " Eschle " found. Since 2008, these have been discovered around 100 men's, women's and children's graves excavated archaeologically (September 2010). Together with the 1967 documents found during the construction of provincial road 440 three early medieval iron swords they allow conclusions to a larger Franco- Alemannic settlement. In addition to the graves were found in 2009 the remains of a stone church (North East corner ), and in 2010 the remains of a mortar mill, a pit house and post-holes, the testimony of a settlement between the 7th and 11th century.

The place " Bärenthal " as such was first mentioned in 1092. Since the 14th century, the monastery increasingly Beuron acquired ownership in the bear Thaler area. 1751 sold the Hohenzollern Ensisheim to the monastery.

In the course of secularization, the village came in 1803 with the Principality of Hohenzollern -Sigmaringen and became Prussian Hohenzollern as part of the country with this 1849. From 1806 so Bärenthal first belonged to a Hohenzollern Oberamt the upper Bailiwick Office Beuron, the forest rose in 1830 in the Upper Office. The municipality is a member of the local government association Danube Heuberg based in Fridingen on the Danube.

Mayor

On July 10, 2011, Tobias Keller with 59.57 percent of the vote, with a turnout of 78.93 per cent, was elected honorary mayor of the community Bärenthal. He solved Roland Ströbele after 31 years in office from. His inauguration took place on September 5, 2011. He went after 51 years in public service to retirement.

Sports

The communities Bärenthal, Irndorf, Nusplingen and Schwenningen created in 2011 a joint network of trails for winter sports.
