Bernburg (district)
The district of Bernburg was a county in the southern center of the federal state of Saxony -Anhalt. On 1 July 2007 he went as part of the district reform in Saxony -Anhalt on the new Salzlandkreis.

Geography
The area of the former district, named after its county town Bernburg, lay on the southern edge of Magdeburg on the Saale River, almost exactly in the middle between Halle ( Saale) Magdeburg. It bordered on the north by the county Beautiful Beck, on the east by the county Köthen, to the south by the county hall and to the west by the districts Mansfeld and Aschersleben - Staßfurt.
History
In the Duchy of Anhalt Bernburg the county was formed in 1863 from part of the country Anhalt- Bernburg. After 1918 had become of the Duchy of Anhalt The Free State of Anhalt, the district was called from 1933 County Bernburg. At the same time the town Bernburg 1933 1933 cycle-free.
After 1945, the county belonged first to the newly formed province of Saxony -Anhalt, from 1947, the state of Saxony- Anhalt. In a county government reform in 1950, the city circles Aschersleben and Bernburg were incorporated into the district of Bernburg. 1952 came in the GDR into a comprehensive district reform, in which, among other countries were de facto dissolved and were replaced by districts. The district of Bernburg was doing parts of the territory to the new circles Aschersleben, Staßfurt and Hettstedt from. From the remaining part of the district, the new district of Bernburg was formed together with congregations of the old counties Eisleben, Köthen and Saalkreis, was assigned to the newly formed district hall.
After the reunification of the two German states of the circuit Bernburg in 1990 re-established state of Saxony- Anhalt to the district of Bernburg was. With the district reform in Saxony -Anhalt 1994, the city Güsten was annexed from the county Staßfurt the district of Bernburg.
When the district reform of 2007 in Saxony -Anhalt Bernburg the county was merged with the county Beautiful Beck and the district Aschersleben - Staßfurt the new Salzlandkreis. County seat of the new county was Bernburg. As a district administrator for the new district was in the runoff election on 6 May 2007, the district administrator of the former district of Bernburg, Ulrich Gerstner (SPD ), elected by a narrow margin against the district administrator of the former district Aschersleben - Staßfurt, Heike Brehmer (CDU ).

The flag of the district of Bernburg was red-green -and-white striped. The coat of arms was centrally placed on the flag.
Economy
In the area of the district Bernburg sugar beets were grown in rounders there was the diamond - sugar - factory GmbH. The beet acreage was 40,000 acres, the processing capacity of 1.5 million tonnes per campaign. Per day were 16,500 tons of sugar beets are processed. The plant was commissioned in 1993., The factory had 230 employees, the total investment amounted to around 240 million euros.
