Bingkor

Bingkor or Bingkur is a settlement in the district of Keningau in the Malaysian state of Sabah. Bingkor is located 123 km route from Kota Kinabalu and belongs to the Interior division. According to population statistics of 2010 Bingkor has 51 inhabitants. O.K.K. Gunsanad Kina resulted in a Bingkor the cultivation of natural rubber.

History

In 1936 an indigenous self-government in the Keningauebene was at the direction of Sir Jardine, the British Governor of British North Borneo, tentatively introduced. Based on his positive experience in Tanganyika Jardine wanted to improve the poor earnings from the poll tax. To this end a run of locals administrative center was built in Bingkor, which was responsible for twelve kampung with a total population of 2,700 inhabitants and was placed under the direction of the well -respected chief Sedoman. Bingkor was the first settlement, known accorded full by the North Borneo Chartered Company financial independence. Thus, this experiment was not disturbed, was the Catholic churches prohibiting any missionary work in that administrative district.

Experience with Bingkor 's self-government were an important basis for the construction of the Native Administration in British North Borneo. This transfer of sovereign rights to the level of traditional indigenous jurisprudence is enshrined in law by the Native Courts Enactment 1992 Sabah today.
