Sindumin

Sindumin until the 1960s known as Mengalong, is a small town in Sabah, Malaysia. It is located 144 km south of the state capital of Kota Kinabalu and is part of the district Sipitang area Interior division. Situated on the Brunei Bay Sindumin borders the Malaysian state of Sarawak.

History

By the year 1900, the river Sungai Sipitang marked the boundary between British North Borneo and the Sultanate of Brunei. The purchase of land between the rivers Sungai Sipitang and Sungai Trusan in 1901 was the establishment of administrative offices in Sipitang under the name Province Clarke ( named after Sir Andrew Clarke) result. The main purpose of this administrative post was due to the planned acquisition of additional territory in the first place. However, various problems led to the return of any lands so that the demarcation line was finally laid to Sarawak on the still valid border demarcation at Sindumin.
