Kota Marudu is a town in the Malaysian state of Sabah. Kota Marudu is part of the same administrative district (District Kota Marudu ) and is situated 90 kilometers in a straight line north-east of Kota Kinabalu. The city that is called with the involvement of its former name also Kota Marudu Bandau, belongs to the area Kudat Division, which includes the districts of Kudat, Pitas and Kota Marudu.

Demography

The city of Kota Marudu has, according to the last census in 2010 8.716 inhabitants, the majority of Dusun, Rungus, Bajau, Orang Sungai and Chinese. As in many other cities in Sabah, there are also a considerable number of illegal immigrants from the nearby Philippines, mainly from Sulu and Mindanao, which are not registered in the population statistics.

Origin of the name

The former name ' Bandau ' for Kota Marudu is the word Mondou from the language of Kadazandusun ' Mondou ' borrowed. A legend is a buffalo Mondou same creature that is feared by the locals. The later name ' Kota Marudu ' comes from a famous fixture, which was built at the Marudu Bay of warriors Syariff Osman, to protect them against the colonization by the British.

Attractions

About 40 kilometers away from the city lies the Sorinsim waterfall. In Taman Sagabon is an agricultural experiment station at Buyutsee.

The annual corn festival recalls that Kota Marudus is based prosperity and development primarily through its agricultural products. The festival is accompanied by a series of exhibitions and competitions, traditional sports and the coronation of Queen corn.

Policy

Kota Marudu is part of the parliamentary constituency " P.168 Kota Marudu ." In the parliamentary elections in Malaysia 2013 here won the candidate of the Barisan Nasional coalition government Johnity @ Maximus 'm Ongkili victory.
