Tambunan is a town in the Malaysian state of Sabah. It is located in the mountainous region of the Crocker Ranges in the north of the island of Borneo. Tambunan is part of the eponymous County District Tambunan and lies 76 kilometers southeast of the capital Kota Kinabalu. History

Origin of the name

According to legend the name dates back to Tambunans two rival tribes originally the Tamadon and Gombunan who settled in this area. Mat- Salleh Rebellion
