Putatan
Federal State
Putatan is a town in the Malaysian state of Sabah and is part of the eponymous County District Putatan. Putatan adjacent to Kota Kinabalu and has therefore almost the status of a suburb. It is part of the region West Coast Division to which the districts of Kota Kinabalu, Ranau, Kota Belud, Tuaran, Penampang, Putatan and Papar belong.
History
Putatan was formerly a town within the district Penampang. Due to the rapid development of Kota Kinabalu, more and more families settled in the urban fringe areas, so that Putatan in March 1997 by the then Chief Minister of Sabah, YAB Datuk Yong Teck Lee, first the status of a sub-district 5th grade ( daerah kecil, literally: smaller district ) was awarded and was finally collected independently on 1 March 2007 and the status of a separate district.
Demography
The population is, according to the last census in 2010 1.306 inhabitants and consists mainly of Bajau and a larger number of Malay, Kadazan - Dusun and Chinese.
