Bonnieux

Bonnieux is a municipality in the southern French region of Provence -Alpes- Côte d' Azur. It is part of the Vaucluse and the Arrondissement Apt. The town has 1413 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) and an area of ​​51.12 km ². The average height of 425 m above sea level.

Geography

Bonnieux located about 50 kilometers in a straight line south-east of Avignon and about 70 km north of Marseille, on the northern slopes of the Luberon mountain on a steep cone. The town of Apt is located 10 kilometers north-east. The municipality is part of the Luberon Regional Nature Park.

Attractions

The town has a historic townscape with narrow streets, old houses and steep streets. From the outskirts of the village itself offers a fine view of the surrounding countryside. Located in the village is the church that unites both types of Romanesque and Gothic. A few kilometers away is Lacoste with the homonymous castle remains, was for a time the residence of the Marquis de Sade in the 18th century.
