Beaumont-de-Pertuis

Beaumont- de -Pertuis is a commune with 1067 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Vaucluse department in the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

Geography

Beaumont- de -Pertuis is located southeast of the department of Vaucluse, about 13 kilometers south-west of Manosque and 15 kilometers northeast of Pertuis. Neighboring communities in Vaucluse are La Bastide -des- Jourdan in the northwest, Gram Bois in the west and Mirabeau in the southwest. The Durance in southeast forms a natural border to Saint -Paul- lès -Durance in the department of Bouches -du -Rhône and Viñón -sur -Verdon in the Var. In the north- east and north are the communities Corbières and pierrevert of the department of Alpes- de -Haute -Provence.

With an area of ​​56.07 km ² Beaumont- de -Pertuis belongs to one of the largest municipalities of the department. In the north- west, the foothills of the Grand Luberon raise the Luberon Regional Park, to which the municipality belongs. The flowing past the town center Torrent de Saint -Marcel rises to about 480 meters above sea level just across the border in the area of La Bastide -des- Jourdan and ends after 11.2 kilometers in length as a right tributary of the Durance.

History

The first traces of human presence date back to prehistoric times. In the Middle Ages, the city was on a busy commercial street and had more than 1000 inhabitants.
